SATELLITE CONFERENCING PROJECTwpe52.jpg (7095 bytes)

The 20 March, 2002 conference was downlinked by about 60 sites in over a dozen states.  Many sites taped the conference and VHS tapes will eventually be available through this website (but not yet!).

For the next 30 days (or so) the conference can be seen via video-stream, in "Real Media" format.  You can download and view this file from your computer by clicking here, but be advised that it will work best with a higher-end computer and a fast Internet connection.  You may also need to download the free version of Real One Player, which can take awhile without a fast Internet connection.  We will try to extend the life of this video stream beyond one month.

Video taped copies of the two hour broadcast are available, while they last.  Contact Bill Cook.

Part of the grant from the USDA Wood Education & Resource Center is to use satellite technology to broadcast a conference about the "Gentle Logging" demonstration and products.  Davie Multimedia was contracted to deliver a high quality video of the demo, which will be a key element of the satellite conference.  The kinds of systems evaluated for this project may have applicability across the Lake States region of Canada and the United States and into New England and portions of the Appalachians.

On 20 March, 2002, a video conference was broadcast from the public television studios of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.  The conference  provided project background, methodology, and results, including a video tape of approximately 15 minutes.   A half-hour "Question and Answer" session provided an opportunity for participants in the live audience and at remote sites to ask questions.  For more information on this conference, contact either  Bill Cook or Robin Hatcher.
